Five Celebrity Chefs Who Rule Hotel Room Service

We’ve talked about our favorite dishes to order from room service (FTR—grilled cheese rocks the casbah every time), but we’re recognizing that more and more in-room dining offerings are the vision of the world’s top chefs who have restaurants inside the hotels we’re patronizing.

The room service option may even be a second choice if you aren’t able to score a reservation in the chef's signature restaurant, but are in town and dying to get a taste of, say, Bobby Flay's latest creation.

So the next time you peruse your hotel’s room service menu, think about if you should go for the everyday cheeseburger or the yellowfin tuna tartare, whose recipe is courtesy of Gordon Ramsay, Daniel Boulud, or Matsuhisa Nobu's vision.

Here are a five hotels HC thinks has exceptional room service menus, which include choices from celebrity chefs.

Nobu Hotel, Las Vegas: We initially got excited by the idea of having Nobu sushi in bed at the just-opened Nobu Hotel Las Vegas. But then we saw the Nobu breakfast items and now we want to spend an entire day just eating in bed. Some of the breakfast dishes are: blueberry and yuzu soba pancakes, green tea waffles, eggs Matsuhisa with roasted asparagus, bonito egg sauce, ikura and toasted bao, and a tomago yaki, a Japanese-style omelette made with your choice of ingredients. Even king crab is allowed. Best of all, you can order room service through your iPhone with the Nobu Hotel app. Swoon!

The Chatwal, NYC: The spiffy, spectacle-clad Geoffrey Zakarian heads The Lambs Club, a Mad Men style resto full of red leather banquettes. The atmosphere is beyond sexy, but if you prefer to stay in your equally seductive digs, you can have Zakarian's spicy veal meatballs or beef tenderloin tartare delivered 24 hours a day.

The London West Hollywood: Gordon Ramsay's 24-hour room service menu at the London is a condensed version of his restaurant's Cali-inspired cuisine. Plus, you can order wines and microbrews to go with pork belly sliders, olive tapenade, and grilled bread.

The Mercer, NYC: This is Jean-Georges Vongerichten's SoHo kitchen where you can order classic, but well-prepared favorites to savor inside, like New York Strip with gingered shiitakes, country ham and Gruyere panini, and his warm Valrhona chocolate cake at any hour of the day.

The Surrey, NYC: Daniel Boulud’s busy Café Boulud will serve its hotel patrons such dishes like onion soup topped with Gruyère or Belgian Endive salad, bosc pears, toasted walnuts and blue cheese sherry vinaigrette in their decadent (and quiet) rooms. It’s a perfect ending after spending a few hours atop the guests and members only rooftop taking in the NYC skyline.
